Anyone here have mild scoliosis? The doctor discovered I had mild scoliosis when I was about 14 or 15 after I had a huge growth spurt. It was too late to get a brace, but I went to physical therapy.

I am now 22 and am now feeling pain in my back from the scoliosis. I can't do a lot of physical exercise because it causes too much pain. Biking and swimming seem to be the only types of exercise that don't cause too much pain.

I am trying to get physical therapy again, but anything else I can do to reduce the pain.


I recently tried yoga and it has helped a lot. Anyone know some interesting yoga DVDs/books, etc. to try out?

I just recently started using my livejournal again, and I figured I could use it in tandem with this community to give the boyfriend a break from hearing me jaw about exercising. I'm 20 and I started getting in shape back in January for a variety of reasons (fear/pride/vanity/apprehension about potential upcoming apocalypse/sincere desire to better myself).

Hey girls i'm Alex I used to be bondageupyours & dollydagger on those old rating communities. I was a member of this community years ago.

I started doing the juice fast today to start my pre summer diet. Anybody remember that? anybody want to do it along with me?

Is anybody in to aerobics? I'd love to hear about good aerobics dvds. I'm a big fan of the Ministry Of Sound dvds & Jane Fonda's New Complete Workout.

When I was a teenager my weight would go up and down, sometimes I'd be a size 7 or 9 sometimes a 13, and I'd always gain lots of weight in a relationship and then lose quickly after I got out of it, but I have been in a relationship for almost 4 years now, and there's no way in hell I'm going to regret this relationship because I've gained lots of weight.

4 years ago I was at 180.
3 years ago I was at 200
2 years ago I was at 225
1 year ago I was at 240 in a size 18-20

This April was the first time in my 24 years I'd gone on a diet/exercise plan and it was kind of starting to work. I was down to 221 from 240 and a size 16 in the summer, walking, running, biking every day I could (unless it was raining or I was on my period, speaking of which my period has actually started happening every month since I started the exercise/diet!!)

I slacked off a little for a while. and now I'm up to 225, so basically I've only lost 15 pounds in 6 months. I hope this plateau will end soon. I've been at this weight since August and it's really starting to get to me, It seems like lately it's just been driving me CRAZY to the point that I find myself not wanting to leave the house a lot, even if it is to exercise. I'm afraid I'll be like my mother who is overweight and has diabetes, liver problems, and thyroid problems because of her weight.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member!
My name is Alyssa, I'm 21 and I am married with a 18 month old son.
Currently I'm 149, when I was preggo I got up to 183 and my pre baby weight was 143. I'd love to get back down to 143 and I was doing a good job at going to the gym for an hour 4 times a day but for the past 2 months I haven't gone at all. Hopefully I'll start doing that again.
I've cut out soda and candy in my diet but I do enjoy sweets and I'm not a big veggie eater. It's easier for me to eat what I'd like and just work out instead of counting calories. I do try to stay under 1600 calories though.

It's nice to find a supportive community like this so thanks!

So I'm starting to think that cardio isn't gonna cut it. I've lost 15 lbs (5 lbs away from initial goal, and 15 away from my final goal) and I'm still really unsatisfied. I feel like I'm all flab and no muscle at all!

I think I lost all my muscle due to a poor diet during the school year (I go through periods of freaking out and starving myself, which is horrible, but it's hard to stop), so now I'm like 99% body fat, haha. I'm going to start looking into building muscle... But I don't really know where to start.

I've been what they call a ~cardio bunny~ my whole life, and I'm pretty intimidated by communities like gymrats and female_muscle because they're all about heavy lifting and barbell and building bulky, visible muscle. I just want to shape up!

Does anyone have any advice for me?

 I have a friend who just started this diet/cleanse where you can only drink this mixture of maple syrup, lemon, cayenne pepper and water. No solids, only the mixture and water for 10-20 days. I thought it was kinda sketchy with calorie intake and such and was wondering if anyone had some sort of feedback.

ok so i did it!!!! since havin scarlett ive lost 64 lbs!! in the past year! rad!! when i got prego i was 155 then got up to 206 when i gave birth and now im at a comfortable 142. ive been going up and down between 139 and 142, i hate that! ps. im like 5'10 so in the high 130s and low 140s is pretty healthy in my opinion!

i went vegetarian right after she was born and have been a vegan since jan 25th and honestly i eat whatever i want when i want! and it has been amazing!!!

whats your favorite music to jam to, while working out?
what gets you pumped and motivated?



I'm proud to say I've lost 6lbs since I began eating healthier in March (even while cheating ALOT with beer, ever since schools been out). Expect a picture post after I hit my goal.
SW: 137lbs.
CW: 131lbs.
GW: 120lbs.

Alright this is super broad so I apologize for that beforehand,

I'm looking to make the biggest dent possible in my fitness level by July. Strength and endurance are my biggest concerns. I've found myself a fitness buddy thats in to intense stuff. I'd love to physically be able to do rock climbing by then. A personal trainer isn't an option due to financial woes.

Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. What things have made the biggest impact for you?

Also, whats your favorite thing to do involving weights? (free weights or machines) Admittedly I'm kind of scared of the weight room. I'm going to force myself to get over that fear ASAP.

(Just for the record I've already got rad bike stamina and running is out of the question due to cranky shins)

So I tried doing a really intense diet back in the fall, unfortunately it was so strict that I couldn't stay on it (I was losing 10 lbs a week, which I don't think was healthy but gained it all back in half the time). And now that it's summer, I want to start losing weight in a healthy way. I currently weigh about 220-ish. I'd like for my goal weight to be somewhere around 180 but I feel like I'm shooting for the stars. So, instead I'm trying to go for inches. Once I feel happy about the way I look on the outside, I feel like I can start working to tone myself and be happier on the inside. I'm a size 18-20 in jeans and want to cut myself down to a 12-14.

The "game plan" I've started myself on is pretty simple. Cut out fast foods, candy, and sodas; whatever portions of food I make for myself at home, eat half of instead of the whole thing; monday-thursday twenty laps of freestyle at the local pool and 25 crunches. On weekends, walk the dog half a mile and 50 crunches.

I started a week ago and lost 5 lbs in that time, though I'm pretty sure it's because my body isn't used to the work out and once it is, I'll loose less weight. I also want to increase my workout as I go along. I was wondering if anyone had any tips. I feel like I could go strong like this for a long time because it's not so much of a diet as it is just being healthy, but I'm notorious for getting fed up and quitting when I don't get quick results.

Does anyone have any tips for food or snacks when I have a sweet tooth? Maybe some more work out ideas? I don't actually have a membership at a gym or anything so I don't have access to any equipment.

Also... I really want to get to my goal size before I go to college (which is in mid august) is that even possible on my diet? I want to get a fresh start and not be "the fat girl" when I get there... you know?

I have a few questions for you wonderful ladies (and gents! i think? lol) which I have put into a questionnaire format for easy answering.

1. What kind of low-calorie low-carb drinks are your FAVORITES while dieting? Juices, sodas, seltzers, etc.

2. What are your favorite low-carb low-calorie recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner OR snacks that are filling and won't screw up my diet? I love to cook, so anything goes!

3. Do you ever make your own snacks/appetizers to have on hand? When I'm not dieting, I always have chips and stuff to snack on, but I am really interested in making/cooking/prepping my own similar snackies that won't go straight to my thighs!

4. Have you ever tried any diet pills/weight loss supplements/vitamins that actually worked & helped? I know most of them are just appetite suppressors, but a lot of them don't work!

5. While dieting, what is on your grocery list?

6. Fad diets.. which have you tried, and which have worked & which have failed? (Atkins, South Beach, Master Cleanse, etc.)

7. What are your favorite exercises to do? This includes in-home and outside! I am looking for exercises that target inner thighs, butt and tummy! :)

8. On what plan did you lose what amount of weight in what amount of time?

9. What are your favorite diet-friendly substitutes for your every-day fattening snacks, meals and drinks?

10. Stretch marks. Most of us have'em. Most of us hate'em. Any advice on reducing the appearance?

You can answer all of them, some of them, none of them, or just give some tips, tricks and advice! Thanks in advance, you guys! :)

 I started dieting and all this 4 years back. I was 242lbs back then and started going to the gym everyday and swimming and eating right but I only lost 5 lbs after 6 months so I gave up and went into depression! Last january 07..when things came to an halt when I checked my weight its 265! I was clearly obese!!! So I checked out a lot of websites a lot of information on the internet and I started going to the gym again! I got down to 229 lbs in July 07 but hit a plateau that stuck around for AGES and I left gym after 3 months. I finally broke my plateau in December 07 and went down to 227lbs but gained that and + some more pounds. Today is 27th april 08! Im 245lbs! 100 lbs to lose. Here we go...

what do u ladys do to keep those areas toned?

I wasn't sure if i had post this list here before. I don't see it in the memories and it would have been over a year old if i had. I told myself that since the holidays come and then my 18th birthday is right after new years, I would start exercising and eating right, right after my birthday. But I've tried for the past few weeks and I have 2 problems:
--I am a fried-food addict. I cant resist and I am having trouble finding substitutes.
-- I also am very out of shape and I feel like it HURTS to work out.. i hear this is normal for the first few times though. However, I dont want to overdo it and hurt myself.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get things going? I really need to start toning up. I have an Orlando trip coming up in 2 months, and I also am moving to the shore for the entire summer, with my 6 beautiful girlfriends! I look pretty healthy, just need to get rid of some of this fried-food-flab. My main concern is getting rid of not so much POUNDS, but certain areas that are getting big.

Hey guys so im actually kinda using livejournal again. anyway. im new and guess what i wanna loose weight. i used to excercise like mad and do excessive training for rollerderby however i ended up loosing my job at hustler (after two years and a management position) and started having problems maintaining our derby practice space so needless to say i got a little depressed and a little heavy (booze doesnt help either).

i found this awesome website called thedailyplate.com it helps you count calories and factor in your excercise as well and ive lost 10 pounds! not to mention ive been going to the gym and training for a rollerderby bout i have on sunday. blah. that was long anyway..hi!

hi everyone! my name is Mayra, from dallas,Tx. I am 19 yrs old and about
5 1",i weight about 145. 3 months ago i gave birth to my first child. before i was pregnant i weight 130 , then went up to 165 while pregnant. after i gave birth i went down to 145. i want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight! i use to run at the park, before i was pregnant, but right now its hard for me to do that, because of my baby and the fact that its really cold outside! Does anyone have any tips on what i can do to lose this belly!
